Middle School Reading Bowl Team 2
Calling all DCHE 6th-8th Grade Readers! This will be DCHE’s second year competing in the Greater Atlanta Christian School - GREAT READERS BOWL Competition!Course Description: The Great Readers Bowl is a quiz-style competition based on a specific book list compiled by Greater Atlanta Christian School. The purpose of this course is to encourage and promote the love of reading and memory recall as we prepare to compete in January. Students are expected to read the assigned books prior to weekly meetings where review will be done through fun games and activities. Students will learn what it means to be part of a team and to cultivate sportsmanship in academic competition.
Competition Structure:
• Each round consists of two teams in a classroom answering questions about the books. Rounds last approximately 15 to 20 minutes. There will be two types of rounds: Buzzer Rounds and Teamwork Rounds.
• Buzzer Rounds: a question is read and the first player to buzz in, answers the question with no help from their team. If they are incorrect, the opposing team will be given an opportunity to answer. Only one team scores a point for any given question.
• Teamwork Round: Each team is given a set of questions, which they will work on together until time is called. Answers are written on a sheet of paper to be submitted and scored. All correct answers score a point.
• Winners are determined by the cumulative point score from all rounds.
